Call the midwife

Call the midwife- sound unit Vanessa

At the beginning of call the midwife they use a theme tune which is also called a jingle which is used in every episode this is for identity so when everyone hears that theme music then they think of call the midwife. They use diagetical sounds to make the scene more realistic and also to show what is going on behind the music also they use digateical sounds such as buses, cars, baby crying people talking all over the music which is called aural landscape and it all sounds a bit busy in the scene so, this indicates that people are in a rush to go somewhere.

After the opening scene incidental music is used throughout of the being of call the mid wife also aural landscape music is use and changed to suit the situation of the scene so for example at the beginning when everyone was rushing there was very upbeat music to show that the scene is going fast and something is going to happen next and when the baby was born the music was more subtle to show that the scene is very calm and peaceful so in different types of situations there is new background music to suit it.they use folley sounds such as the baby crying was used to make it feel more realistic to the audience.

In this scene at the beginning there was no silence this is because a lot was going on in them three minutes that they had to use each second to fit in as much in as they could just to hook in the audience.

Different types of accents are used in the beginning of the episode accents usually give us information about the characters for example if a character with a posh accent was talking then it would show us their social calls same as someone with an east London accent was speaking it would show us their social class it was also tells us in call the midwife that the couple with the received pronunciation accent would be more higher in power seeing as call the mid wife is set in the olden days. This gives us more of an idea of what sort of life style each character has purely based on their accent.

In the scene of when the lady was conceiving the baby her what looked like to be her husband was waiting outside and he looked very nervous to suit his nervousness the music became even more upbeat which indicated that he was nervous and there was tension of what is going to happen next for the viewers and the man in the show. Whilst the lady was giving birth over the dialogue of the mid wife’s talking really fast to try and calm down the lady the music in the background was still very upbeat to show thing important is happening they also use very upbeat music so the viewers know that at end of the music something interesting is going to happen which is another reason to why they used this type of music through on the scenes of the husband the lady giving birth.

There was a voice over used for the audience to understand what is going on because of the change of the scenery where it went from the baby to another scene of people going about their normal lives.

To do with all these sounds being used and the accents from the dialogue we have more of an idea of what is going on or what might happen in the episode just for listening to the first 3 minutes of call the midwife this shows how powerful and meaningful just sounds alone could be and how they can tell a story even without anyone having to see the actual scene its self.

Serial podcast and radio show

Serial podcast season 1

In  the serial podcast the lady who is speaking starts of by explaining what her podcast is going to be about whilst she is explain she then uses music which is called oral landscape. She uses very upbeat music depending on what she is saying at one point she was talking about romance and love and then she uses music over it which is very subtle and romantic music to fit in with what she is saying this is to create meaning and so that the viewers feel as if thought they are experiencing it also adding in the music makes her story sound more interesting and more enjoyable to listen to.

In the podcast there isn’t much silence but the lady does take breaks through her sentences to create tension and to make the viewers want to hear more also, taking breaks through each of her sentences or in-between makes the story sound more interesting and more relaxed rather than it be the presenter talking very fast it would sound as interesting also because there is no visual the presenter needs to try her hardest to describe to the viewers of what is going on.

By describing the scenes to us so that the viewers create an image in the viewers minds of what is going on so, that the story seems more interesting and also by connecting and image with the description in your head with the story of what is being told makes the story more easier to understand and also it lets the viewers connect more with the story and making it more imaginary.

The words that the lady is saying and the way she is putting the story together is so interesting she doesn’t give too much away at the beginning she is giving the viewers a quick over view of what happens in the story but doesn’t give too much away so that the viewers then want to find out more she builds tension with her words and also by adding in the music but when she is talking alone it makes you want to listen very carefully so that you do not miss anything out. She then adds in phone calls and interviews with other people so the viewers can have more of an idea of what is going on some of the interviews that this presenter does is over the phone and it is very clear to tell that it is over the phone because of the sound and how it sounds a bit more different to when she is doing face to face interviews. This is so that the viewers get a second opinion of the story and also to make it sound more real life because there are ordinary people who are involved in this situation and who have a story to tell as well. Whilst the interviews are going on the presenter cuts through it and talks about the interview itself so that she can give her option about it this makes you want to listen to her opinion and follow it so that you can think the same also this is sued so just in case the viewers don’t know what the interview is about the presenter clears it up and then goes back into the interview the change through the interview to the presenter talking herself is very easy to tell the difference because of the different sounds that is going on the interviews have more of a ruff sound and the presenter talking herself has more of a subtle and clear sound.

This pod cast has more of a wide range of audience because the story does involved young teenagers so it could appeal to young teenagers also and it could also appeal to older people who are interested in things and story’s to do with crime and mystery.

Compared to the radio on breakfast show the two are very different as the radio show has much more upbeat music to wake up the viewers and to make then happy and they also use aural landscape when combining very upbeat music to a man who is very upbeat and loud and does not take breaks through his sentences they use a jingle ‘’radio on breakfast show’’ this is for branding so that the viewers know wat radio show they are listening too also they start off with new music that is very popular at the time and then they go to talk about things with celebrities or just normal people they usually have phone-ins for people who have won things over the radio show this makes people want to join in so that maybe they could win something too. In this type of podcast you would of have to be tuned in from the beginning of the podcast to understand fully what is going on whereas in the radio show you could tune in at any time thought out a song or interview and still get what is going on.They also usually have interviews with other people about things that have happened recently and they have phone-ins to do that to they could also have interviewers on pointless things that the audience can’t help but listen to. The radio show is on in morning that is another reason to why the music and the presenter is very upbeat to wake people up for this radio show the audience is mainly older people or young adults for people who are dropping their children to work or who are going to work.

In the radio show they also use announcements at the beginning of what music is going to be played ‘’we have Rita ora…’ this sis o that the viewers know what is going to be played throughout the radio show.

Task 2a

article 2

Want to know what is making you wear so much make-up then scroll down. If you’re wondering why you wear so much make-up well, I think I’ve just found the answer. Maybe it’s been sitting right in front of you maybe you’ve been seeing it every day but you just haven’t noticed that this is the thing that is leading you into wanting to wear even more make-up. From music videos to online tutorials on YouTube is where nearly every teenager is taught how to wear make-up and what the new trends for make-up are one minute thin eyebrows the next thick slug eybrows.from the minute you lay your eyes on the tutorial you are trapped and your eyes are drawn into the video learning new ways to make yourself even more fake your brain and eyes detach themselves from each other and you forget what these videos are actually doing to you. maybe we can’t help ourselves because we are surrounded 24/7 by these controlling videos making us think that everything these people do we should do everything these people buy we should buy.

The internet is filled with new ways to do your make-up and also our minds are filled up with this thought that watching these videos is better than watching videos to revise for your next science exam make-up is science some will say. always experimenting with new chemical products trying to find products which will hide those freckles you have always wanted to get rid of or filling in those eyebrows you have always been so insecure about make-up is a way of covering up things that you have always dreamt about getting rid of without knowing the side effects of using these products on the flaws you have. From time when wearing make-up at a young age was seen as normal it has become a continuous cycle something that you teens can’t seem to stop.

You would watch one video about makeup and the next day you have 1000 suggested videos on how to do your make-up and you can’t help but watch them all just because you’re so curious on how people go from being normal to fake. More than 67% of videos on YouTube are about make-up 56% of you tubers once in their videos talk and show their viewers how they do their make-up.so watching your favorite you tuber telling you how to do make-up you would listen? Most make-up videos are about how to do your make-up to look like a celebrity the most common is Kim Kardashian now what young teenager would not want to look like Kim Kardashian people are using

celebrities to lure you in and your just following everything their doing and saying making you spend money on products and making you cover your face with chemical products that in the future will have side effects.in todays society it is seen as the norm to be pounding your face with heaps of make-up and don’t get me started on the people who now use make-up on their bodies to make their boobs look bigger everything is getting all out of control can it even be stopped well you have all the power to that learn to show off your flaws that you have been born with learn to stop caring about what everyone else thinks but yourself most of these people you are worrying about you won’t even recognize when you are older.

article 1

F
rom the soot-rimmed eyes of the ancient great Egyptians to the lead paint worn by only the Elizabethans, girls and women have experimented with cosmetics throughout history and throughout their whole entire lives. More and more girls around east London love to cover their faces with chemical products to feel better about themselves which they sometimes say they do it for ‘’fun’’.is this really true?. In today society it is seen as being normal for girls even at the age of 13 to be wearing make-up especially around east London, if you was to walk around Walthamstow central you would see young girls with a full face of makeup (cakey look) now is this really normal for girls that haven’t really even gone into their teen years to be worrying about how they look? Isn’t the reason for being young to have fun? Well nowadays, wearing makeup is seen as being a fun thing to do. Do people really wear make up to feel better about themselves or just because everyone else does it so they can ‘’fit in’’

All over social media such as Instagram all you would mainly see is funny videos and make-up tutorials so if girls don’t really feel the need to wear make-up can they really escape the fact that it is seen as a normal thing that everyone is doing especially that now ‘’young people’’ are the main target audience for all of these social media apps. almost as if they are trapped in the fact that everyone is wearing make-up which then would result in more people wearing make-up?.
A new study has shown that more than 75% of girls in east London feel it’s impossible to leave the house without wearing make-up. a fifth of girls as young as 12 won’t leave home without a full make-up and over half of under 14’s wear cosmetics EVERY day’’ (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-2723853/Would-YOU-let-12-year-old-wear-make-Over-HALF-14s-wear-EVERY-day-nearly-fifth-wont-leave-home-without-cosmetics-on.html). Quote from a 14 year old girl ‘’wearing make-up makes me and my friends feel better about ourselves and it is also a way of me and my friends to socialize with each other so many boys in my school thought we was ugly until we started wearing make-up and now I feel so good that I have all this new attention’’. Now boys play a big role in the fact that girls want to wear more and more make-up because in today’s society if a

boy doesn’t think your good looking then it’s the end of the world. But boys love to say ‘’I would rather want a girl that wears no make-up to a girl that wears make-up’’
But still go for the one with no make-up purely for the fact that she looks better. Your probably thinking where has this urge for young people to be wearing all this make-up well some blame ‘’Asian’’ people because of the fact that they are so skilled at doing their make-up they have set new trends all around east London such as the thick eyebrows and the 10kg amount of highlight. green street is one of the most popular places to buy new make-up and where you will see hundreds of women wearing make-up looking almost ‘’perfect’ ’now also most of the people you would see running up and down green street at groups of young teenagers trying to find out the new trends and trying to fit in with everyone else no wonder almost 45% of parents blame green street for being the reason why their kids put on tones of make-up. Green Street was made in 1940 where young teenagers did not feel the need to wear make-up so do we blame Green Street or the people who work there? It seems that people find it easier to blame Green Street than the people that run and work there. It seems like each month the new style of make-up changes first its thin eye-brows now everyone wants ‘’thick eye-brows’’

and everyone seems to be doing everything they can to fit in with the make-up trend like tinting their eyebrows which could risk all of your eyebrows falling off but oh well at least you fir in now. ‘Ornela’’ 15 has over 90k followers on Instagram based on the fact that she has good make up skills where as a doctor ‘’timjh’’ on Instagram has only 563 followers on Instagram the more ‘‘important’’ people are becoming less well known and makeup artist are becoming the most well-known. girls all over east London admire kenza and try and be like her because of how famous kenza is becoming girls think that doing what she does is going to make them famous as well teenagers are trapped in this idea that if you are not well known are not attractive that your life isn’t fun which is not the case teenagers need to learn that being well known and being the most attractive person in the room is not going to get you anywhere and as much as everyone tells them such as family and friends they can’t stop and realize that being attractive means nothing. There are many disadvantages of wearing make-up that not a lot of teenagers known such as it ruins your skin when you older maybe if they knew all these disadvantages they would stop but nowhere on the products to the mention these side effects and nowhere in tutorials or on social media they let everyone see the outcome of wearing a lot of make-up. "By the time girls become teenagers many of them have a daily make-up ritual or tutorial. As the layers add up so does exposure to dangerous chemicals and that’s very bad news for a young girl’s health."

Ornela ages 15 has over 90k followers based on the fact of her good make-up skills based in east London she has been an instagram star encouraging and inspiring young girls from the age of 13 to wear and try out new make-up she is known mostly all around east London and

all of the UK.

Now parents are giving their young children pocket money just for them to spend it all in boots or Superdrug on make-up which could be spent on more important things maybe there should be an age limit on if you can buy make-up or not but that would just cause to much problems maybe, the parents need to stop giving their children pocket money and just buy the things that they actually need? Well, a new study shows that millions of children are spending more than half of their weekly pocket money buying the newest brands of make-up the most expensive eye brow pencil. ‘’mac’’ is the number one place where young children buy all their make-up products and is £14 a eye brow pencil really worth it I thought not.

Sarah Craftwood

A girl that lives in east London told us ‘‘I was late for my GCSE math’s exam because I couldn’t get both my eye brows to look right’’ Its crazy to think that children are missing out on thing that will later on in life help them but nowadays they think getting the right eyebrows and eyeliner is going to get them everywhere.

grades dropping, gcse failing all because of chemical products most would say that this is really getting out of hand most children in their math’s class would rather look at their selves in the mirror than try and work out how to do simultaneous equations.

In mine and many other peoples opinions all around the world teens shouldn't or don't need to wear make-up because everyone is naturally pretty in their own way and make up does not define who you are the only person you need to impress is your self.

adaptation 2

You’ve watched your child grow from the second they came into this earth you have witnessed their first steps and their first words their first drop and their first tear don’t stop looking after them now and being there for them just because they are older and bigger than they was once where before.

Young teenagers all around the world are having problems with their appearance trying to cover up all their flaws with chemical products left right and center. Spending almost all of their pocket money given by their parents on make-up and unneeded things every month a new makeup trend comes out so, that means more of their parent’s money being spent and parents can’t help but give it to them you don’t want to see your child be stressed about make-up but you also don’t want to upset them. parents now days think that just letting their children wear make-up is a way of resolving their insecurity problems they think, having a chat to them about it won’t help well, almost 67% of teenagers said that ‘‘if they had someone to talk to about their insecurities about their insecurities it would make them feel better and they just want someone to tell them that they don’t need make-up. They feel as though people compliment them more when they have make-up on. So, what are you going to do about this you as a parent need to take control and make sure that your child feels like they are appreciated without make-up

Even the smallest things can help?

This article isn’t just about making you feel bad about how little you do to make sure your child is happy without make-up but almost like a guidance and something that you can reflect on and take away things to help your child because they are the most important things in your life. Taking you child out to experience new things and taking them to places which don’t revolve around make-up and everyone looking ‘the best’ make sure that you have fun with them take them somewhere where every child should be going take them to a theme park almost a way of letting them be free make sure that they don’t spend their pocket money on these un nessicery products which won’t help them in the future make sure you talk to them even once a week make sure they know that they are the most important and stunning person that you have ever seen, make them feel special no one else would, teach them not to judge peoples appearance because now days children are the only ones who bring each other down.

Sit down dinners is a great way to bond with your child talking about their problems as a family making sure that you know everything there is to know about your child. It doesn’t hurt the ring your child’s teacher once or twice to ask how they are doing how their behavior is changing, if any bullying is going on.

The times you have on make sure you make space for your children because if your children don’t feel wanted by you they will go elsewhere to make themselves happy. Making sure your child

Making sure that your child are the happiest in their teenage lives is the best thing because then it will then teach them to be confident and happy about their selves in the future they will then pass your parenting onto their children and the cycle will go on but we are starting with you first you are the only ones that can start this cycle of happy stress free young teenagers only you can change your child’s lives and for the parents that don’t take notice then hope that you child influences them to change their lives. Find new ways to spend some quality time with your child ask them what their hobbies are and plan an amazing day out no phones no make-up just fun.

Image finally being able to get in the car on time without you child having to touch up their make-up making sure they look nice to go to the shopping center 5 miles away from your home.
Time to start making a difference to your child’s life a life where you can spend even more time with yourchild laughing and talking about normal things rather that hearing your child complain about their looks 24/7.

Mum Trcey 34, on the left and daughter

aged 16, to the right spend a day at the St,
Judes childs hospital spending time with children that are facing cancer.

Helping out people that dont have the same as you and your child is a great way to teach your child to be more thougtful and teach your child tou appericate what they have.

Making sure your child is the happiest they can be is the most important thing because happiness brings good grades laughter self-confidence and that if what your child needs.

Speak to your child as if they are the wisest, kindest most beautiful and magical human on earth, for what they believe is what they will become.

Make a difference and start now it’s never too late.

adaptation 1

Can you remember when you was younger and everyone around you was free no worries not worried about what other people thought of you just free, playing out with all your friend talking and laughing about normal things being excited to play outside and get wet with water balloons having that mind-set that nothing is stopping them from going out to have fun without any stress the world where no one would judge you and everyone wouldn’t have such an opinion on your appearance, you would go outside and be ready within 2 minutes well isn’t it crazy how things have changed everyone is becoming more worried about how they look rather than enjoying their lives. I think it’s time to change everyone’s opinions and let them know how life used to be before stress free don’t you.

Everything you say and do can change their opinions every word you say to them can change the way they think stories about your past can make them think about how much fun they could be having but no one is doing anything to stop it. Everyone who knows how a stress free childhood is not speaking up not doing anything in their power to help the young children who have been almost possessed and taken over by make-up its self.

Campaigns should be set up, protests, even talking with a few teenagers can help because everyone follows everyone if people start to stop damaging their faces so young with chemical products everyone will then eventually stop. Let’s get it back to how it used to be when everyone would be outside playing around with water balloons but how young people are scared it might ruin their ‘make-up’.

FACTS:

Did you know almost 78% of teenagers are scared about what people will say if anyone sees them without any make-up? More than 67% of teenagers have given up on education and gcse’s some say they don’t even come in when their foundation has ran out many, children a wasting their lives because of small things and they complain about the strict rule about make-up in schools. Isn’t that sad anyone with a heart would feel so much sympathy towards them.

Have you heard of the new club called ‘’stress free teenagers’’ they’re hoping to go around the whole of London and progressing to be able to go around the whole world there’s just one thing that’s stopping them, they need more people to help, people who know what it is like to not worry about having to wear make-up. It’s a way to get teenagers all together to talk about their problems and share stories with one another to make them realise that they are not alone in this world of their where they feel so insecure that they are trapped, a way for everyone to hear stories about a stress free life a way to make them believe that they have so much more things that they could be worrying about and so much more things that they could be having fun with.

Our children at stress free teenagers first start of by making a mind map of what their insecurities are and what they do to them this is a good way a releasing their thoughts without having to say it out loud.

We just need you, you are the person we need to teach all these young teenagers that there is more to life than worrying about what people think of them without make-up. Even in your free time whenever you have nothing to do you can come down to this club and try and make a difference to people’s lives.

Time to start making a difference just pick up the phone fill out a form sheet and your good to go so easy and simple and you will get so much out of it the feeling that you have helped even one teenager to face their fears and stop worrying about their appearance teaching young teenagers to have fun which is what your teenage life is all about.
